“I wana be a Toys R Us Kid”

2 God the Father knew you long ago and chose you to live holy lives with the Spirit’s help so that you are obedient to Jesus Christ and are sprinkled with his blood. May good will and peace fill your lives!

1 Peter 1:2 (GW)

Day 3: “I wana be a Toys R Us Kid”

Read 1 Peter 2:2

The theme song for Toys R Us has always been the one in our title. The idea was that you are never too old to act like a kid. This is almost true. You are never too old to have fun, and we are commanded to come to God with the innocents of children. That said, we still have to grow up. There comes a point in our lives when we have to put away the toys and enter the real world. (I need to point out that we have to make this change in God’s timing, not our own.)

The change from child to adult is very important, but can be very scary. No one is ever ready for it. You will make some mistakes, and hopefully learn from them. You will be hurt by people, and hurt people yourself. It will seem like the world is against you the whole way. On the other hand, this is the point when everything you have been learning comes into play. You leave the home and go out to take on the world. At some point, you will realize that you made it.

Just as we have to go from being children to adults physically, emotionally, and mentally, we also have to do it spiritually. That is what this verse is all about. We have to want to become grown-up Christians.

Just as becoming adults is not easy, becoming grown-up Christians isn’t either. That road is not an easy one to follow, and the pressures that shape you will feel like they are going to crush you. Remember what we talked about yesterday, if you let God control you, you will not go through any of this on your own. God will be right there with you. In fact, you will come to look forward to these times of trial. (More on that tomorrow.) To get through the hard times of life, just trust God.

Consider This…

How much growth have you had spiritually? Are you hungering for the things of God? Are you seeking out what God wants for you to have?

Now is the perfect time to start the work of growing in God. Turn to Him and let Him start molding you into who He wants you to be.
